INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY IN EDUCATION

At NIALP, we work closely with schools and families to promote intercultural dialogue and inclusive education. More than 160 families have already benefited from our mediation support with schools, while three school clusters actively participate as partners in our projects.

Through initiatives such as the creation of a school calendar integrating South Asian festive dates, the distribution of welcome kits for families, and the dissemination of multilingual glossaries in Portuguese, English, Nepali, Hindi, and Bengali, we help ensure that schools reflect and celebrate the diversity of their communities.
We also invest in training: over 220 teachers, staff, and key community members have joined our courses focused on building intercultural dialogue, as part of projects like BIP-ZIP “Escola para Todos” (2022–23) and BIP-ZIP “Escola Aberta” (2023–24).

More recently, NIALP implemented the project Growing Together! in the field of Early Childhood Education, with the support of the Junta de Freguesia de Santa Maria Maior. As a key outcome, multilingual Guides for Parents (0–6 years) were developed and made available online, promoting clearer communication between migrant families and educational institutions and supporting more culturally sensitive welcoming practices.
